Z Group at the 2026 Green Expo: Advancing Sustainable Architecture in Aspen

Aspen architects join CORE and the Roaring Fork Valley community to explore the future of sustainable buildings and climate-conscious design.


On September 11, Z Group Architecture & Interior Design joined sustainability leaders, building professionals, and community members at CORE’s 2026 Green Expo at Aspen Meadows.


Hosted by the Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE), the annual Aspen event brought together more than 20 businesses and organizations working across climate, energy, and the built environment. The afternoon included a Solutions Showcase, a panel exploring the future of sustainable buildings, and opportunities for conversation and collaboration.

Sustainable Architecture Rooted in the Roaring Fork Valley


For Z Group, sustainability is not a separate layer added to a project. It is part of a larger commitment to designing architecture that responds thoughtfully to its site, its occupants, and the surrounding landscape.


At the Green Expo, our team shared examples of how that philosophy is being translated into practical strategies across residential, hospitality, mixed-use, and community architecture in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley.


Our Sustainability Showcase featured projects incorporating strategies such as solar power and battery storage, ground-source heat exchange, structural insulated panel construction, LEED-certified design strategies, building-envelope improvements, electrification, and passive solar shading.

Among them, The Inn at Aspen features a 243.2 kW solar array with 608 panels, identified in our event handout as the largest private array in the Roaring Fork Valley. The Farm Collaborative’s new Welcome and Learning Center incorporates structural insulated panel construction alongside a 22 kW solar array and battery storage, while River House, a new single-family residence, incorporates a 10-well ground-source heat-exchange system.



Reimagining an Aspen-Area Architecture Office for the Future


Our Green Expo display also highlighted the ongoing transformation of Z Group’s office at 208 Midland Avenue in Basalt, a project completed in partnership with CORE.


The architecture office remodel preserves a historic façade dating to 1894 while improving the performance of the building behind it. The design includes a fully re-insulated core structure, low-E triple-pane windows, conversion from gas to an electric heat pump, and custom window boxes and louvered steel overhangs informed by passive-shading studies.


It is a fitting example of an idea central to Z Group’s work: the most sustainable path forward does not always mean starting over. Thoughtful architecture can honor the story of an existing place while adapting it for a more resilient future.
