A Site Visit to a Modern Farmhouse in Eagle County
There’s something special about seeing a home come to life, not just on paper but in person. Recently, a few of us from the Z Group team took a spring afternoon to visit Lazy Marmot Ranch in Eagle County. The project had just wrapped up, and the homeowners welcomed us with big smiles and a proud invitation to tour the finished home.
As we stepped inside, they shared stories of the process, pointing out their favorite corners and family treasures now nestled into the space. From hand-picked finishes to heirloom furniture, their personal touches filled the home with warmth. Standing on the back porch, we watched goats grazing in the field just beyond the property, a simple, quiet reminder of the pastoral calm that drew the clients to this site in the first place.

Inside the Tour
This walkthrough felt like a celebration. Project Manager Katie Hmielowski joined us on the visit. From the welcoming front porch to the sunlit vaulted ceilings, the 3,218-square-foot home flows with ease across its 1.459-acre lot. The main living area opens to the outdoors through expansive lift-and-slide doors, while a stone fireplace brings texture and warmth to the heart of the space. Upstairs, a cozy media room offers a retreat, balancing the open-concept layout below.

“This was a style we don’t often work in at Z Group, so it was a fun challenge,” Katie shared. “It opened us up to a new design language, and we heard from people who hadn’t seen our work before. It was exciting to reach a new audience.”
The Team Behind the Home
Working with Katie on the design of the home, Seth Hmielowski helped to oversee the project's construction, and Zoe Calahan offered interior design expertise. Together, they carried this project from concept to completion, translating the homeowners’ vision of a modern farmhouse into every thoughtful detail.
Seven Castles built the home, and Mic Baca of Studio M Engineers was the structural engineer. The team’s close collaboration ensured that every detail aligned with the homeowners’ aspirations, down to the last gable and line of lap siding.
The result? A clean, soulful modern farmhouse that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
