About
Located in Aspen’s AABC industrial area, the Aspen Skiing Company Tune Lab is a high-performance ski tuning and operations facility designed by Z Group Architecture & Interior Design. Originally built as a warehouse for apparel storage, the building was transformed through adaptive reuse into a centralized hub supporting ski and snowboard tuning, equipment storage, and logistics for all four Aspen Snowmass mountains. This conversion reflects Z Group’s expertise in industrial architecture, adaptive reuse, and ski resort operations design in Aspen, Colorado.
The design reimagines the warehouse as a workflow-driven environment, integrating forklift circulation, loading dock access, and high-density storage systems to support efficient equipment movement. At the core of the facility is a Wintersteiger Jupiter ski tuning system with eight modules—one of the largest of its kind in North America— enabling high-volume daily tuning operations. Custom racking, chariot storage systems, and clearly defined zones for intake, preparation, and tuning allow the space to manage 3,000–5,000 skis and approximately 500 daily tunings with precision and speed.
Strategically located to serve Snowmass, Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, and Buttermilk, the Tune Lab functions as a critical piece of Aspen’s ski infrastructure. This project demonstrates how commercial and industrial architecture can elevate operational efficiency, transforming a utilitarian warehouse into a high-capacity, performance-driven facility. Through collaboration with Aspen Skiing Company, Z Group created a space that supports the seamless experience of skiing in Aspen—long before guests reach the mountain.
