Reframing the Mountain Experience
Set within the alpine fabric of Snowmass Village, the Snowmass Ski Condo is a complete architectural transformation—an elevated reimagining of a legacy mountain residence. Originally constrained by low ceilings and compartmentalized spaces, the project called for a full-scale condominium remodel, including a raised roof structure to unlock volume, light, and a renewed connection to the surrounding landscape.
The design intervention began with a fundamental shift—lifting the roof structure to introduce vertical generosity and spatial clarity. This strategic move transformed the interior from compressed and inward-facing to expansive and light-filled, allowing the home to breathe within its alpine setting.
Exposed wood beams now define the rhythm of the ceiling plane, drawing the eye upward while reinforcing a sense of warmth and craftsmanship. Large-format windows frame views of snow-laden evergreens, embedding the seasonal landscape directly into the home's daily experience. The result is a residence that transitions seamlessly between the energy of the slopes and the calm of retreat—an essential quality for the modern mountain lifestyle

Architecture as Framework
The success of the project lies in how structure, proportion, and materiality establish a cohesive foundation for living.
Clean-lined millwork and integrated storage solutions create visual continuity throughout the residence, while natural materials—light oak cabinetry, stone surfaces, and subtle textural contrasts—anchor the home in its regional context. The kitchen, reconfigured for both efficiency and gathering, balances precision with warmth, offering a refined backdrop for everyday use and après-ski entertaining.
In the main living area, the reimagined volume fosters connection among levels, occupants, and the interior and exterior. A lofted walkway overlooks the central gathering space, reinforcing both openness and intimacy—an architectural gesture that enhances how the home is experienced across generations.
Spatial Flow & Everyday Function
The redesigned layout prioritizes intuitive flow and flexibility. Spaces are organized to support both quiet retreat and social engagement, reflecting the evolving needs of a modern mountain homeowner.
Living Area: Anchored by a fireplace and framed by vertical volume, designed for gathering after a day on the slopes
Dining Niche: Positioned along expansive glazing, creating a light-filled setting for shared meals
Private Quarters: Calibrated for comfort and privacy, with integrated storage and softened material palettes
Circulation: Open and connected, allowing movement through the home to feel effortless and intentional
Each decision reinforces a core principle that design should enhance how people live, not simply how a space looks.
Context & Continuity
Situated within an established Snowmass condominium community, the project respects its architectural context while subtly elevating it. The exterior palette—stone, wood, and metal—remains grounded in the region's vernacular, while refined detailing and proportion signal a contemporary evolution.
The raised roofline not only transforms the interior experience but also enhances the building’s presence in the neighborhood—quietly distinguishing it without disruption.
