Lazy Marmot

Modern Farmhouse | Single-Family Residence

Eagle County, Colorado

Where Modern Design Meets Rural Simplicity

Set against the open landscapes of Eagle County, Lazy Marmot reimagines the modern farmhouse for today’s Colorado lifestyle. Designed by Z Group Architecture & Interior Design, this 3,218-square-foot residence combines clean, contemporary lines with the warmth and familiarity of traditional rural architecture.

Expansive lift-and-slide doors dissolve boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, connecting an open-plan entertaining area to a generous back porch framed by mountain views. A stone fireplace anchors the heart of the home, while vaulted ceilings and natural light create a sense of openness and calm.

A Home Built for Connection

The main house features four bedrooms, three baths, and a two-car garage, paired with a detached two-bedroom ADU above an additional garage. Together, they form a small family compound on a 1.459-acre lot within a 10-acre planned development in Willits.

Exterior materials blend tongue-and-groove vertical wood siding, horizontal lap siding, and standing-seam metal roofing, combining durability with timeless appeal. The home’s open-concept layout encourages gathering and flow, complemented by a cozy media room upstairs and large windows framing pastoral mountain vistas.

Inspiration and Design Approach

The homeowners came to the table with a clear vision: a modern farmhouse that felt inviting, connected, and deeply personal. Inspired by their own images and ideas, the design celebrates simplicity, natural light, and honest materials.

“This was a style we don’t often work in at Z Group, so it was a fun challenge,” shared Project Manager Katie Hmielowski. “It opened us up to a new design language and a new audience.”

From the welcoming front porch to the sunlit vaulted great room, every detail was crafted to balance contemporary design with country character.

Lazy Marmot stands as a clean, soulful example of how modern mountain architecture can honor traditional forms while embracing contemporary living. Its completion marked an exciting milestone for the Z Group team—proof that design rooted in collaboration, authenticity, and landscape awareness can resonate deeply with both clients and community.
