Brush Creek Ranch

Contemporary Ranch | Private Residential Compound

Snowmass, Colorado

Three Homes. One Remarkable Landscape.

Set on 102 acres between Aspen and Snowmass Village, Brush Creek Ranch is an architectural study in land, legacy, and belonging.

Bordered by more than 900 acres of Sky Mountain Park open space and shaped by Brush Creek, the ranch encompasses open meadows, mature vegetation, equestrian features, and the historic 1913 Weiss House. Within this extraordinary setting, Z Group Architecture & Interior Design is designing three contemporary mountain residences, each responding individually to its site while contributing to a larger vision for the ranch.

Rather than imposing architecture upon the landscape, the design begins with what is already there: topography, views, water, history, light, and the quiet expansiveness of the land.

The result is three distinct homes connected by one architectural idea—design that belongs to its place.

Designing from the Land

Across Brush Creek Ranch, the architecture is shaped by the particular qualities of each homesite.

Building forms respond to changes in elevation. Courtyards provide privacy and shelter. Expansive windows frame mountain and meadow views. Terraces extend living spaces into the landscape. Natural materials give the contemporary forms warmth, permanence, and a connection to the ranch setting.

Each residence responds differently to orientation, terrain, privacy, and view. Together, they create an architectural language that feels cohesive without becoming uniform—a collection of homes conceived individually within a shared landscape.

Architectural Highlights

  • Three custom mountain residences across a 102-acre ranch

  • Approximately 5,500–5,750 square feet per home

  • Site-specific architecture responding to topography, views, privacy, and natural light

  • Low, landscape-oriented forms that reinforce the horizontal character of the ranch

  • Expansive glazing framing the Snowmass mountain landscape

  • Integrated courtyards, terraces, and outdoor living spaces

  • Natural palettes of stone, wood, steel, and glass

  • Strong indoor-outdoor connections throughout each residence

  • Architecture designed in dialogue with the historic ranch setting and surrounding open space

Lot 1 | Architecture Anchored in the Ranch

Lot 1 occupies approximately 35 acres and encompasses the historic heart of Brush Creek Ranch, including the 1913 Weiss House and ranch barn.

Here, Z Group's proposed 5,750-square-foot residence takes the form of a low, single-level composition extending horizontally through the landscape. Its quiet massing preserves the expansive character of the site while establishing a contemporary counterpoint to the ranch's historic structures.

Integrated courtyards bring landscape into the architecture while creating protected outdoor rooms. Stone, wood, steel, and glass establish a material palette that feels elemental and enduring, while carefully positioned openings frame long mountain views.

The architecture is intentionally restrained—a home designed to participate in the landscape rather than dominate it.

Lot 1: Approximately 35.02 acres | 5,750 SF | 5 bedrooms | 5 bathrooms | private office | 2-car garage | pool | hot tub | cold plunge | sauna

Lot 2 | Shaped by the Hillside

On approximately 35 acres near the center of the ranch, Lot 2 responds to a different condition.

The planned 5,750-square-foot residence is integrated into the hillside, allowing the architecture to work with the property's elevation while opening the primary living spaces toward panoramic views.

Rather than resisting the slope, the house uses it as an organizing principle.

Primary living spaces occupy the upper level, extending outward onto a sequence of terraces that step into the landscape. Outdoor dining, an outdoor kitchen, pool, and spa become extensions of the architecture, strengthening the relationship between shelter and open air.

The result is a residence that feels simultaneously protected by the hillside and open to the immense landscape beyond.

Lot 2: Approximately 35.28 acres | 5,750 SF | 5 bedrooms | 6 bathrooms | private office | 2-car garage | pool | hot tub | cold plunge | sauna

Lot 3 | Framing the Mountain Landscape

At the up-valley end of Brush Creek Ranch, Lot 3 offers another interpretation of architecture in the landscape.

The approximately 5,500-square-foot residence is positioned against the hillside, preserving views while creating a direct relationship between the home and its terrain.

Floor-to-ceiling glazing turns the surrounding mountains into an architectural element. Broad patios step outward from the residence, allowing interior spaces to transition naturally into the landscape.

From the arrival sequence to the primary gathering spaces and private rooms, the architecture is organized around moments of prospect and shelter—opening toward distant views while remaining grounded against the land.

Construction is underway, with completion anticipated in 2027.

Lot 3: Approximately 32.32 acres | 5,500 SF | 5 bedrooms | 5 bathrooms | private office | 2-car garage

A Contemporary Expression of Ranch Living

Brush Creek Ranch is not defined by a single architectural gesture.

Its identity emerges from the relationship among three residences, the historic ranch structures, Brush Creek, open meadows, mountain views, and the changing character of the land itself.

Each home responds differently. Together, they express a contemporary approach to ranch architecture—one rooted in proportion, material authenticity, indoor-outdoor living, and respect for place.
