Riverside Condo

Contemporary Scandinavian | Condominium

Aspen, Colorado

Where Scandinavian Simplicity Along the Roaring Fork River

Perched above the flowing waters of the Roaring Fork River, this contemporary residence—affectionately called Riverside Condo—is a complete transformation of an outdated mountain condominium into a refined and serene full-time home for a newlywed couple. Designed by Z Group Architecture & Interior Design, this 1,612-square-foot, two-level renovation turns a tucked-away riverside unit into a tranquil, light-filled retreat grounded in Scandinavian inspiration and natural textures.

In the heart of Aspen, this riverside property merges the simplicity of clean lines with the soul of its surroundings—creating a modern mountain home that’s minimal, functional, and emotionally resonant.

Minimalism with a Mountain Soul

The owners came to Aspen from opposite coasts to begin a new life together. They envisioned a residence that would reflect clarity, calm, and cohesion—a design that could support daily living and meaningful hosting. Z Group delivered an architectural and interior experience that gently echoes the movement of the river just outside.

Removing an outdated stone fireplace opened the entire upper level, transforming the kitchen, dining, and living spaces into a single open-flow gathering zone. The kitchen now features scalloped backsplash tile—a nod to the river’s surface—and Taj Mahal natural stone countertops. A blackened steel staircase with open wood treads adds bold contrast while introducing sculptural elegance at the center of the home.

Throughout, warm oak flooring and custom millwork anchor the design with natural texture and warmth, while handmade tile, brushed-nickel fixtures, and layered lighting enrich the home with subtle details.

Interior Experience & Material Highlights

Natural light, clean lines, and a quiet material palette define this serene riverside home. Throughout, oak wood flooring, custom cabinetry, and natural stone surfaces establish warmth and cohesion. A sculptural blackened steel stair with floating oak treads becomes a central architectural feature.

Key elements include:

  • Open-plan main level with kitchen, dining, and living spaces unified by warm woods and a soft palette

  • Custom millwork in the kitchen, entry, and master suite for beauty and storage

  • Layered lighting, built-in shelving, and handcrafted tile throughout for texture and intimacy

  • Guest bedroom-office hybrid designed for flexibility without compromise

The result is a minimal, modern mountain interior—designed to feel timeless, tactile, and quietly luxurious.
