A Modern Sanctuary in the Elk Mountains — From the Inside Out
Set on 36 secluded acres in Colorado’s Elk Mountain Range, Elysium redefines contemporary mountain living. While the architecture blurs the boundaries between structure and landscape, the interior design completes that vision — shaping a sanctuary where serenity, beauty, and balance converge.
Through stone, steel, glass, and carefully layered materials, Z Group Architecture & Interior Design created interiors that feel both expansive and intimate — a seamless experience of openness and retreat. Each room becomes a quiet dialogue with the surrounding peaks and valleys, keeping the landscape ever-present.
Rooted in the Landscape
Elysium was envisioned as an elevated retreat where design mirrors the contours of the land. That philosophy continues inside.

Monolithic stone walls extend into living spaces, providing permanence and grounding. Warm wood ceilings soften structural lines. Floor-to-ceiling glass dissolves visual boundaries, immersing the interiors in natural light and uninterrupted mountain views.
The palette remains intentionally restrained—mineral tones, organic textures, and refined finishes that echo the terrain beyond.
“The retractable walls open the home to the mountain air,” notes Mountain Living, “placing the gathering spaces within the landscape and redefining what it means to live in harmony with the Elk Mountains.” The result is contemporary Colorado interior design that embodies harmony with its setting.
A Fluid Interior Experience
The home unfolds along a linear plan that guides movement through calm, open spaces. Kitchen, dining, and living areas act as transparent thresholds between daily life and wilderness beyond.
Furnishings are sculptural yet understated, arranged to preserve sightlines while encouraging gathering. Custom millwork integrates seamlessly, reinforcing spatial clarity and visual stillness.

When retractable glass walls open to the mountain air, terraces and lounges become natural extensions of the interior — redefining what it means to live in harmony with the landscape. Indoor and outdoor living are not separate experiences here; they are one continuous rhythm.
Light and Material in Motion
Every surface in Elysium captures shifting alpine light. Morning sun washes across textured stone and wide-plank floors. Afternoon light warms steel and oak with a subtle glow. As evening falls, layered architectural lighting introduces intimacy without disrupting transparency.
Light becomes an active design element — transforming the home throughout the day and reinforcing the emotional tone of each space.
Spaces for Reflection and Celebration
Elysium was conceived as both a place of reflection and celebration. The interiors support both with equal clarity.
Private bedrooms are designed as restorative retreats — softened palettes, tactile materials, and controlled light fostering calm. Bathrooms evoke spa-like simplicity through stone slabs, floating vanities, and minimal detailing.
The kitchen anchors the home socially and visually. Clean-lined cabinetry and integrated appliances maintain refinement during both intimate mornings and lively gatherings. Every detail balances functionality with elegance, reinforcing Z Group’s commitment to interior architecture that elevates daily life.
Contemporary Interiors in Enduring Harmony
The Elysium residence embodies Z Group’s philosophy that design should live in harmony with its landscape and endure through time. Sustainable materials, energy-conscious glazing, and durable finishes ensure longevity in the alpine environment.
In its seamless union of architecture, interior design, and environment, Elysium stands as a testament to modern mountain living in Pitkin County — a home where material, light, and landscape converge into a lasting sanctuary.
