Project Architect / Manager:

Z-Group Architects is looking for a full time Project Architect / Manager with a minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience. The successful candidate will manage projects and coordinate with clients, consultants, and contractors, as well as plan, coordinate, and engage in production drawings and construction detailing. They will direct the day-to-day oversight of construction projects with big-picture planning, clear effective communication, and management of multiple timelines. They will be involved in new building designs, extensions, alternations, restoration, and conservations from the earliest stages through completion.

This demanding position requires excellent time management, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to successfully balance a client’s needs and contractor schedules, as well as construction regulations. Ability to produce permitting and understand codes is a must. Project sizes will include large single-family residences, new build and renovations, with potential for more complex buildings including mixed-use commercial and residential.

As lead liaison, assisting in planning and designing may be required but over seeing project coordination with consultants, client, and construction process is this position’s primary responsibility. This position will require at least 2 – 3 days of in-office work, while remaining days may be worked from home. The goal is to match client’s needs and to produce sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs.

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Managing and coordination with client, consultants, and contractors while working with teams across business lines
  • Control project from start to finish to ensure high quality, innovative, and functional design
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, and construction documents
  • Organize and manage permit documents
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of building codes
  • Ensure that all work is carried out to specific standards, building codes, guidelines, and regulations
  • Adhere to all industry standards in design


Architectural Skills and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, design, or related field (M. Arch. preferred)
  • Minimum of 7 – 10 years of experience in architectural design
  • Strong time management and scheduling abilities
  • Strong software command:
    • Revit (minimum of 5 years, with extensive modeling experience)
    • Microsoft Office suite
    • AutoCAD
    • SketchUp
    • Adobe Creative Suite is a plus (Photoshop and InDesign)
  • Experience in all project phases from concept through construction administration and client turnover
  • Experience in site planning at any scale and a firm understanding of the site entitlement process is a plus
  • Expertise in code research, including an understanding of energy codes and building envelope science
  • Ability to research and understand building products, construction details, and relevant uses, regulations, and quality standards
  • Firm understanding of structural and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
  • Strong imagination with the ability to think and produce in both 2D and 3D design, and produce drawings for meeting presentations and sales content
  • Willingness to travel within a 50 miles radius or more to site visits as to ensure project status and report on project
  • Visual awareness and eye for detail
  • Advanced communication and listening skills
  • Advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills to quickly identify, evaluate, and solve possible problems to keep projects moving quickly
  • Friendly, proactive, personable, and professional demeanor is a must
