NEW FACILITIES WITHIN HISTORIC CONTEXTS

  • Pitkin County Library  – Aspen, ColoradoDue to its siting between two of Aspen’s most historic structures – the Courthouse and the Hotel Jerome, special attention was paid to the visual details of this new library.  Forms and materials appropriate to the historic context were successfully utilized in this very compatible design.
  • Frasier Hall Annex Music Library  – University of Northern Colorado in GreeleyThis major new, technologically state-of-the-art music library is designed to compliment the existing Art-Deco style of Frasier Hall and the other nearby buildings of the historic East Campus.  Exteriors are delicately designed to respect the scale, texture and character of the adjacent building.
  • Fort Lewis College & CNCC College Facilities  – Durango & Rangely, ColoradoAt each campus, CGA has designed several new buildings, additions and renovations which are carefully conceived to integrate with the respective campus character.  Each campus is different; but our compatible designs respect the scale & style within the established fabric of each campus.
  • Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences  – University of Colorado in BoulderLocated in the heart of the historic Central CU Campus, this renovation/addition has successfully restored and linked two traditional buildings with a compatible stone structure.   The “CIRES” project design and execution was honored with an award from the Historic Boulder Society.
  • Telluride Middle/High School  –Telluride, ColoradoThis large new building was designed under the close scrutiny of the Telluride Historic and Architectural Review Commission (HARC) and was successfully conceived to respect the Victorian-era Mining Town traditions of the community.
  • Aspen Civic Plaza  – Aspen, ColoradoSurrounded by historic structures, the Civic Plaza connects 3 CGA-designed buildings: The Pitkin County Library, Pitkin County Jail, and Aspen Youth Center.  These buildings, along with CGA-Renovated Hotel Jerome & Pitkin County Courthouse, form the heart of Aspen’s Historic Civic Core.
  • ­Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge Hotel  – Glenwood Springs, ColoradoAdjacent to both the historic Hotel Colorado and the Hot Springs Lodge & Pool Complex, this new 110 guest room facility incorporates building forms, materials, and colors that comfortably blend into this important Historic District within the Glenwood Springs Community.

HISTORIC RENOVATIONS

  • ­Stonesoap Building Addition & Renovation  Detroit, MichiganThis 5-story building project in the Rivertown District of Detroit includes the total renovation of a 1920’s era warehouse & a 2-story addition designed in a compatible “industrial” style.  The 70,000 SF renovation & 30,000 SF addition accommodate hi-tech offices & structured parking for 100 cars.
  • Hot Springs Lodge Renovation  – Glenwood Springs, ColoradoThis major Victorian era structure, built in the 1880’s was fully restored with reuse as health club and offices carefully refinished with turn-of-the-century interiors and refinished stone exteriors.  Adjacent buildings were connected and renovated to achieve historic compatibility.
  • Telluride Historical Museum  –Telluride, ColoradoA major Addition and complete interior renovation and exterior restoration was designed for this late 19th century structure which was originally built as the “Telluride Pioneer Hospital” and has been used as the community’s Historic Museum for many years.
  • La Plata County Courthouse  – Durango, ColoradoA key challenge in the design of this courthouse renovation/addition was the new clock tower to house the restoration of the 1891 clock and bell which was an original feature of the historic building.  The project was awarded the “Community Enhancement Award” from the City of Durango.
  • Hotel Jerome Renovation  – Aspen, Colorado       CGA’s design for this project was closely reviewed and accepted for inclusion in the National Registry of Historic Places.   Through major structural and aesthetic renovation, this landmark hotel was fully restored to its original character, and has received several Historic Preservation awards.
  • Meeker Schools Energy Upgrade  – Meeker, ColoradoIncluded in this upgrade of all of Meeker School District’s ten buildings is renovation work for three historic structures – the “Downtown Elementary School”, the “Rock School” at Piceance Creek, and the “Intermediate School”.   Adherence to current building codes & energy standards was achieved.
  • Ramaley Research Laboratory  – University of Colorado at BoulderWithin the historic precinct of the CU campus, this traditional stone building of 50,000 SF was totally gutted and reconstructed to meet current building codes & energy standards; and together with our 60,000 SF addition, the facility houses a sophisticated biology research & teaching lab complex.
  • Aspen Art Museum (Visual Arts Center)  – Aspen, ColoradoThis handsome building was originally the City Power Plant in the 1880’s and has been renovated into a comprehensive Art Museum.  The exterior was carefully preserved, and the interior was fully restructured and altered to maximize exhibition spaces with high security & environmental controls.
  • Eagle Visitor’s Center  – Eagle ColoradoThis Site Master Plan & Historic Building Restoration for Chambers Park & Eagle County Historic Society Museum/Visitor’s Information Center includes the restoration of a historic barn and house, railroad-era track & caboose, picnic area, playgrounds, parking, restrooms, etc.
  • Bent County Courthouse Addition  Las Animas, ColoradoThis design includes adding an exterior elevator to the very uniquely styled Turn-of-the-Century Courthouse Building and creating a sympathetic character that utilizes compatible but subservient materials, building forms, and details.
  • Telluride Elementary School Renovation & Addition  – Telluride, ColoradoA major new addition to this landmark historic structure was carefully designed to be visually subservient while more than doubling the square feet.  Significant renovation of existing spaces and connections between existing and new structures at two levels were incorporated.
  • Savage Library Remodel  – Western State College in Gunnison, ColoradoSignificant remodeling of the interior of this historic landmark building, designed by famous Colorado Architect Temple Buell, was accomplished within the delicate exterior facade. Redesign of the stack & reading areas include new finishes as well as lighting & mechanical upgrades.
  • Pitkin & Gunnison County Courthouse ADA Upgrades & Feasibility Studies  Aspen & GunnisonThe Victorian era Pitkin County Courthouse was analyzed for ADA code compliance and design was completed to upgrade the building.  The Gunnison County Courthouse was analyzed to determine feasibility of major renovation/additions to accommodate jail, courts, and administrative functions.
